58 Pelican Lane is the address that Arthur and John head to after Arthur remembered seeing a similar symbol to the one on John's book in the house while looking into Emily MacFarland's disappearance.
Description[]
The house is the only one on the street, meaning it's unusually isolated. It is abandoned, but Arthur and Parker had previously broken in through an open window at the back of the house. The window had previously been boarded up and later on, the planks had been removed to give access. Inside the house, they head to the basement where John says it's unusually small, and behind a door disguised as a bookshelf they discover a room. There is a mural of Shub-Niggurath on the wall which John describes as:
It is an enormous mass, which extrudes black tentacles. Slime-dripping mouths, and short, writhing goat legs. It is immense and horrific. It is more than death itself. It is a forest of despair; filled with a thousand young and it is an all-consuming, all-devouring end for life.[1]
A stone on the mural can be turned, revealing a stone passageway into a cave-like chamber with no exit. There are three cages suspended from the ceiling. A stone slab, sacrificial in appearance, sits in the center of the room, and beyond it, a podium. Behind the podium is a stone archway that does not lead anywhere, with only stone behind it. On the floor are two bodies, one appearing as though they had been killed by the other, and the other appearing dismembered, the same as Emily MacFarland.
History[]
| Beyond this point lies information from the Invictus CoC Campaigns, which may not be canon to the timeline of Malevolent. |
In the summer of 1921, Antoine used the basement of this house as a ritual site in an attempt to summon Shub-Niggurath. In the cages on the ceiling were Henry MacFarland, Frank Underhill, and Jarrett Coombs, descendants of The Three Soldiers, who he believed were necessary to have present for this ritual to work, hence his kidnapping Amanda Cummings to coerce her father, Roland Cummings, to manipulate the descendants. Amanda was in a cage on the floor during this ritual. Anna Stanczyk was intended to be the host for Shub-Niggurath and was laid out on the slab for the ritual. After Henry, Frank, Jarrett, and Roland were able to create and execute a counter-plan, the ritual was stopped, and as Anna was helping Amanda, The King In Yellow began to emerge from the still open portal. Anna partially bound the King to the ritual book used for Shub-Niggurath, and closed the portal on the remainder of the King - fracturing him in two.[2]
